As we discovered yesterday – OUR BABY GIRL IS SIX!!! She woke up for school this morning and was excited for her first day as a six year old! Every thing is different now that she is six…according to her. She is can wear different clothes and do more things. She has a whole new view on everything, which is quite hilarious. We are just going with it. When I was braiding Hayley’s hair this morning, I said “How did you get so pretty?” And her response was, “It’s because I’m six.” Well, there you have it folks.

Every year, when I start planning Hayley’s birthday party, I have a vision of what I want it to be. Guess what? She never wants what I want! It’s a fact. Her first 2 birthday parties were all up to me and that was all I got. She has had a serious opinion about every other party, which I guess is her right since it IS her birthday (insert eye roll here). However, I always end up loving her ideas because they are all HAYLEY! It is always what she is loving and what she wants so of course she gets to choose. I always want it to be all about her (even though I am a little sad about my visions not becoming reality). So this year, she chose Trolls! I tried to push a Pixie Hollow theme so we could make flower crowns and wear fairy wings. She shot that down IMMEDIATELY. Side note – I have tried that theme for 4 years now and she has chosen Monsters University, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Descendants, and now Trolls. Maybe I should stop trying.

Back to Trolls. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, you HAVE to see it! Even if you don’t have kids, you need to see it. My kids were hooked within the first couple minutes that the movie started. Between the music and the bright colors, it is just so fun! When starting the planning, I knew right away we would have lots of colors going on but I wanted to keep it as simple as possible. All of the decorations were handmade, from the dollar store, or something we already had. For the kids crafts, I picked things that fit with the movie but wouldn’t be too difficult for 5 & 6 year olds. Michaels has these cute necklace kits that use string, foam flowers, & beads. Each kit makes 5 necklace so that was a WIN! Then, each girl made a picture frame using a foam flower cut out, stickers, and glitter glue. They attached a Polaroid picture we took of them with Hayley. Princess Poppy loves to scrapbook so this was close enough. We attached magnetic strips to the back so they could put them on their fridge. All of those items were pretty cheap from Michaels as well!

The biggest hit of the party, though, were the headbands! Troll hair is a GIVEN when throwing a Trolls party!!! Hayley stressed that to me from the beginning. My mom came over the day before the party and helped me knock these things out! You can get a 6 pack of sparkly headbands from the Dollar Tree so we only needed 2 of those. The tulle and flowers came from Michaels. We attached the tulle to the headbands, tied them up with a ribbon, and hot glued some flowers. So cute!!! The girl’s loved them and each girl got to take one home so they can be a troll whenever they want! We made a couple other cute things for the party, too, which I will explain throughout the pictures.

For the food, we kept things really easy (the party was at 2pm so we didn’t need a lot). Hayley’s favorite thing was the Oreos that we dipped in vanilla candy melts & put pretty sprinkles on. Delicious and super easy to do! We had them done within minutes! After searching on Pinterest for a good Troll cake, I decided we would go with a sprinkle cake because Hayley LOVES rainbow sprinkles and it incorporated all of the Troll colors. We all went to Buttermilk Bake Shop in Petersburg last week and had our ordered placed right away. The bakers there are amazing!!! Every cake we have ordered has been so yummy and just beautiful! They do an incredible job! Plus, we always leave with donuts or cinnamon buns….and even some doggie treats for Remi. They nailed it with the sprinkle cake! They suggested we mix their two types of buttercream (one is really sweet and one is not) since the cake would already be pretty sweet with sprinkles all over and inside of it – it was the perfect suggestion!

This party was exactly what Hayley wanted and she was just so excited about it! That is ALL that mattered to me! I wanted to do something she would love and that is all! She just kept telling me how it was perfect and she was so happy! Melt my heart! Despite all the party prep and all the things we bought & did…when you ask Hayley what her favorite thing about her party was, she says “Being with my friends!” She just wanted all her girls over to hang out and makes crafts (her favorite thing)! We had such a fun time and I think all the girls liked it, too! (We DID walk in on them having a dance party together at one point, which pretty much made my day!)
