Houston | A Historic Old Town Senior Session

One of my favorite places to do sessions is Old Town Petersburg.  A lot of people around here either say it is overused or just try to stay away from it.  Calling it “overused” basically sounds like a challenge to me!  There are endless places to discover there and so many looks you can achieve.  Historic Old Town has beautiful homes and streets, historic buildings, as well as landscape and greenery.  There are so many options!

Kaley | Senior | Richard Bland College & Softball Field

Senior sessions are starting for the Class of 2018!  I was excited to start this season off last week with Kaley.  I have talked before about how much I love senior sessions!  They are a lot fun to do, but also I just love capturing this time in their lives. So much changes during your senior year and even more changes after you graduate!  This last year of high school is so important for making memories that will last a lifetime and I just really hope all of this year’s seniors soak everything in!

Choosing The Right Photographer | Advice | Caiti Garter Photography

When I became a photographer, I did it because I wanted to capture the joyful, beautiful moments in people’s lives for them so that they could hold on to those memories forever! Those pictures could be something that they hang on their walls, put in their family albums, or pass down to their kids and grandkids so that everyone can remember. That is what you want from your pictures, too, right? Well, choosing the person to take those photos for you means thinking through a few things and doing a little research. Now, you may have someone very close to you that is a photographer and you love their work so – BAM – it is a no-brainer for you. However, some people don’t have that. OR maybe you like multiple photographers – GASP! Is that even allowed!?! Of course it is!! I have a lot of photographers that I love and I would absolutely use quite a few of them! So how do you decide who you should choose or what even to look for? Here are 4 things I think you should think about when searching for you photographer.

Haley | Fall Senior Portraits | Senior Portrait Photographer

Taking senior portraits is such a special experience for me. I don’t feel like it was that long ago that I was a senior (yeah, yeah…10 years..whatever) and I remember it all too well. Being a senior, I didn’t think it was that big of a deal. I didn’t think that I was about to make this big change or take a huge leap or anything like that. But when I take senior portraits, I just feel so excited for them!! It IS a big deal! Seniors are about to make SUCH a big change! Being a mom, I get emotional about it too! This girl I am about to introduce to you definitely made me feel emotional. So, let me introduce you to Haley.

Benjamin | Senior Portraits | Old Town Petersburg

Blog posts are going to be popping up left and right over the next couple weeks – prepare yourselves! Between senior sessions, mini sessions, and a fun event I went to this past week (seriously, amazing), I have so much to share!! However, I am behind on posting this awesome guy’s senior photos and his session definitely deserves a spot on the blog! I met Benjamin a couple weeks ago and I instantly knew we were going to have fun. Most seniors need a little bit of time to warm up to the idea of this crazy girl telling them how to pose, where to look, when to smile, when to laugh, and whatever else – especially the guys. About mid-way through the session, they are usually anticipating what I am going to ask for. Benjamin didn’t need any warm up time! He didn’t mind my silly ways and he could go from a full on laugh to a blue steel serious look in half a second.

Casie | Senior Portraits | Colonial Heights VA Senior Photographer

I was so excited when Casie’s mom contacted me a couple months ago about doing senior portraits! I have seen this girl go from a little middle schooler coming to see her sisters compete on the competition cheer squad, to now being a senior in high school! I coached Casie for a couple of years and I just love seeing how she has grown & changed as a young woman. I love these sessions (as you know). I also love cheerleaders (of course) so this was an all around WIN!

Chris | Senior Portraits | Colonial Heights VA Senior Photographer

I love senior sessions! They are one of my favorite kind of shoots. High school seniors are at such an amazing place in their lives and most of them don’t even realize it! Ohhhh to be that age again (okay, okay…now I sound old). I feel for the mama’s at these sessions, though, and I know that it has to be the start of what’s going to be a very emotional year. My oldest is about to start kindergarten in less than a month so I can not even imagine what I am going to be like when she is starting her senior year. Emotional wreck sounds about right!
