Wedding season is not upon us yet but we are inching closer and I can feel it!  Especially with these random warm days we have had.  I had a bridal session this week with my first bride of this year and it has me so excited!!  Now I have to wait a month until her wedding.  Great.  This is how I feel after every engagement session, too!   I get to spend all this time with my couple and talk all about their amazing day that they are planning and then we have to wait months to see each other again for their wedding day to finally happen!  Today, I am going to introduce you to Kaitlyn & Nick.  They drove down from Northern Virginia for their session and I just love them for that!!  

Kaitlyn and Nick are getting married in September at one of my all time favorite venues – The Mill at Fine Creek!  I love this place and love the people that work there!  Rain or shine, weddings there are always excellent.  

These two are so much fun together and you can tell they are crazy about each other!  Not only that but they are best friends!!  It shows!  For their blog post, I thought it would be fun to let you get to know them a little better.  They have such a sweet story, and Nick knocked it out of the PARK with that first date, so I wanted you to hear about it from their perspective.  Every now and then I like to do these “couples interviews” where I ask them questions about their relationship for y’all to hear all about them!  So let’s dive right in, shall we? 

1. Where did y’all meet and how long have y’all been dating?

We met in the 9th grade at our high school.  We started dating our senior year and have been together for seven years.  

2.  What were your first impressions of each other?

Nick:  My first impression of Kaitlyn was that she was very funny and cute. To the point that you could just instantly be friends with her and feel comfortable with her immediately.  It was a weird feeling. One that I had never had with a girl before.

Kaitlyn: My first impression of Nick was in our history class, he was standing on the opposite side of the classroom with a group of people that would later become our friends to this day. Nick was joking around with them and after listening to him, I realized how insanely funny he was (like Adam Sandler funny). When I saw him for the first time I saw how cute he was. I went to talk to him and got the vibe that he found me annoying. I remember thinking to myself “oh no, I’m going to get him one day, he’s going to like me.”

3.  What did y’all do for your first date?
K: For our first date, Nick took me to a secret place in the woods by Abel Lake all the way in the back. I was skeptical at first, but as we hiked back and the tree line opened up, there was a beautiful little waterfall with tons of flowers surrounding it. We played in the water for hours and as the sun set we watched together from at the top of the waterfall. It was one of the best nights of my life.

4. Nick: When did you know you wanted to marry Kaitlyn?

The moment I knew I wanted to marry Kaitlyn was immediately after a big fight we had just finished. While calming down it kept hitting me more and more with this weird feeling in my stomach. After hours of my stomach churning,  I had a realization that the thought of losing her was physically making me sick. Right as I realized I needed to be with her, all the pain went away in my stomach and I just felt happiness.  It was a pure feeling. That was the moment i knew I wanted to be with her forever.

5. Kaitlyn: What do you love the most about Nick?

What I love most about Nick is his sense of humor. It’s what first drew me to him. It’s what has connected us over the years and never fails to put a smile on my face. I also love how much he cares about me & how much he pays attention to all the details about me. He accepts me and all my flaws. He always tries to motivate me and help me grow as a person.  He’s always optimistic, even when the situation is bad. He never ceases to see the good side of it. Which helps when I’m a glass half empty kind of person.

6.  How did Nick propose to you?
K: Nick proposed on April 28th, 2018, a day after our anniversary. He booked a hotel at the Hilton in Short Pump for the weekend. He took me to the Cheesecake Factory, which is where we had our one year anniversary, where we saved up for to go to a nice restaurant back then. After dinner we walked around the outdoor mall area. He wanted to get a picture of us in the place where we had our one year anniversary picture at.  However, I wanted to take a picture in a new spot. Nick proceeded to find a better/nicer spot. We walked all the fountains, multiple times I might add, until we decided on the middle one (which was in front of everyone).  I could tell something was up when Nick actually wanted to take a picture – he hates pictures. At this time, his hands started to sweat a little.  He gave my phone to a nice a women and asked if she could take a picture of us by the fountain.  What I didn’t know was that he had actually asked if she could take a video of us because he was going to propose to me.  She agreed and said “1, 2, 3 smile” and, as we posed, Nick said “I don’t like this position actually…”.  He got down on one knee and asked ” Kaitlyn Evon Rooney, will you marry me?”  I couldn’t even say yes!!  I was too busy crying!!!  All I could say was “I’m going to be your wife?….and you’re going to be my husband?” And preceded to cry more.  He laughed and asked if that was a yes.  I nodded my head YES!
